"My name is dotty dot and i like it!"

One boring day, 10 year old Ashley decided to sit down at the family's Mac and write a musical. Inspired by Maurice Sendak's Really Rosie, Ashley spent the day writing the story of Dotty Dot; a twelve year old bossy star-to-be and and what happens when she tries to put on a musical with her neighborhood friends. Needless to say, the show wasn't an immediate sensation, and Ashley pretty much forgot about it.
Fast forward to sophomore year of college! Travis, Ashley's friend and roommate, loved the idea of Dotty Dot! After founding Point Park's Experimental Theater Project with a few friends, Travis and Ashley realized it was the perfect forum for Dotty Dot to be (re)born. While they focused mainly on book and lyrics, John Wascavage and Ryan Cavanuagh composed the music and added additional lyrics. It was a collaborative and positive process.
The first production was performed in the Studio Theater at the Pittsburgh Playhouse in February 2008, after just eleven rehearsals! It was a staged reading and opened to a supportive audience of students, teachers and other Pittsburgh theater professionals. Using audience feedback, Ashley & Travis re-worked the script for a couple months after the reading, and came back with a more polished story. The original cast took the show on the road, touring Pittsburgh public schools.
In 2008, Travis moved to NYC and joined Rising Sun Performance Company, a theater company that is dedicated to performing new works. They decided to produce Dotty Dot for their end of the summer/fall children's show in the park! In September 2009, Dotty Dot had its' NYC premiere in Central Park and Riverside Park! The show was directed by Travis. Dotty Dot has since been produced at The Secret Theatre in Long Island City (2012-2013) and will premiere in Arizona at Brelby Theatre Company in May 2015.
