Artist Statement
As a theatre maker, I believe young people have the right to experience emotionally engaging, aesthetically exciting, unique, and original plays created specifically for them. Young people deserve to have agency and space to contribute to the theatre and art that they experience.
I strive to make work that is visually stunning, exciting, surprising, and challenging. I believe in presenting high quality theatre for young audiences that responds to the interests and disinterests of children in a community. I believe the only way to create theatre for any audience is to know them, and that to actually understand what children find interesting, surprising and engaging, we must actively partner with them.
I believe in creating theatre experiences that are affordable, accessible, and inclusive so all families can experience them.
I believe in challenging audiences and presenting topical issues for young audiences, sometimes in abstract, and always in artistic, ways. I believe theatre can change the world, offer a different perspective on something, encourage audiences, and bring communities together.
