Artist Statement

As a theatremaker, I create work for children that is highly visual, exciting, surprising, and challenging. Young people have the right to experience emotionally engaging, aesthetically exciting, unique, and original artistic work created specifically for them. Young people deserve to have agency and space to contribute to the theatre and art that they experience. I believe the only way to create theatre for any audience is to know them, so to actually understand what children find interesting, surprising and engaging, I actively partner with them in the creation of new work.  My work responds to the interests and disinterests of children in a community.
I believe children deserve to experience art for art’s sake. It does not need to be explicitly didactic, it can be beautiful and emotional and wonderful. Theatre can change the world, offer a new perspective and bring a community together, no matter how old someone is. I want to change the world by bringing new, playful, whimsical and joyful theatre to the youngest of audience members.
